              During the Great Patriotic War, February 28, 1943 on the west side of the garden, on the central avenue held burial of the remains of 25 Soviet Army soldiers who died fighting in the Kalmyk steppes on the outskirts of the city of Astrakhan, the names of 11 of which are still unknown. Then this place was an obelisk, and May 9, 1965, the day of the 20th anniversary of the Victory at the obelisk in the Bratsk garden was lit the eternal flame.
