Impressive scale fortification late XIX-early XX centuries. Consists of several dozen large and small forts located around Grodno. Forts were built as military facilities for the long-term defense, so have a number of characteristic features: all located on high ground, protected from the outside, had a good review of terrain ahead and phalanxes. Exterior walls were a concrete fortifications to 150 meters in length with a chain across the line indentations per soldier. The interior walls were protected by earthen ramparts and rows of barbed wire. Inside forts permeated the corridors, rooms, cellars for staff and for laying mines on charges of undermining the case.
