Борисоглебская (Коложская) церковь

Boris and Gleb, or Kalozha church - a wonderful example of ancient architecture of the second half of the XII century. Composition of the building, its construction and decoration of the Lower Church akin to Grodno (mid XII century.). Boris and Gleb Church, located on a high steep bank of the Neman, not completely preserved: its arches and the head disappeared long ago, and the southern part of the western wall collapsed into the river by a landslide in 1853 building is a shestistolpnym, trehapsidnym temples-cross system. In the altar area under a thick layer of plaster were found in 1870 during renovations in the frescos of XII. Of greatest interest are the facades of the church: they are dissected by vertical rods of stepwise-blades. Surface of the walls decorated inserts in polished rough boulders and colorful majolica tiles of various colors. Majolica and stones - a certain symmetry, but not strict, thereby facades have become even more picturesque: they seem inlaid with precious stones. Boris and Gleb Church, together with a complex of monuments on the Castle Hill in Grodno declared historical and archaeological reserve.
