The island is situated opposite the historic center of Kiev between the main channel and the sleeve of the Dnieper Chertoroem. Truhanova area of the island is about 450 hectares, it is connected with the right bank of the Dnieper River pedestrian bridge. It is believed that the name Truhanova island comes from the Polovtsian Khan Tugorhana since the end of XI century it was the residence of his daughter - his wife Kiev Prince Svatopluk. In times of Kievan Rus to Truhanov island existed as a settlement Olzhishi belonging to Princess Olga. In 1534 the island was acquired by the desert-Nikolsky Monastery, in 1698 was returned to the city. In the middle of the XIX century, it appeared the first built in 1880 having workers of the village in connection with the establishment on the island of the 1 st and 2 nd association Dnepr Company. After the destruction of settlements during the Second World War Truhanov island was rebuilt in the place of rest. Today, there are large beaches (including Central, Dovbychka), water stations, sports facilities, restaurants, rest houses and a lot of greenery.
