The island is situated opposite the historic center of Kiev between the main channel and the sleeve of the Dnieper Chertoroem. Truhanova area of the island is about 450 hectares, it is connected with the right bank of the Dnieper River pedestrian bridge. In times of Kievan Rus to Truhanov island existed as a settlement Olzhishi belonging to Princess Olga. In 1534 the island was acquired by the desert-Nikolsky Monastery, in 1698 was returned to the city.
