The Lviv Polish Theater was built at the expense of Stanislav Skarbek and opened on March 28, 1842, and worked until 1899. The building of the theater bears the historical name "Theater of Skarbek", which comes from the name of its founder, or "Old Theater". In 1900-1939, the premises of the Skarbek theater were used as a philharmonic society and a cinema. In 1941-1944 the troupe was evacuated in the city of Novokuznetsk. In 1944, a Ukrainian troupe arrived from Zaporozhye, and soon the theater began to experience a new upsurge. Despite the competition from new theatrical collectives that appeared in Lviv during the years of independence, the National Drama Theater. M. Zankovetska is still one of the best Lviv theaters.
