On March 23, 1928, in Kharkiv, the Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR issued a Resolution "On declaring the castle-fortress in the city of Kamianets-Podilskyi a state historical and cultural reserve." In accordance with this Resolution, the castle within its ancient walls and earthen ramparts with all the ancient fortresses, Russian and Polish gates, the tower of Stefan Batory was declared a state historical and cultural reserve and transferred with all property of historical and cultural significance to the People's Commissariat. education of the USSR. The area of the reserve is 121 hectares (its boundaries were approved by the Khmelnytsky Regional Executive Committee on June 16, 1977). This is primarily the Old Town, sandwiched in the loop of the river Smotrych, as well as the adjacent canyon Smotrych, Castle Bridge, a complex of Old and New Castles. Monuments of the New Plan, Russian and Polish filwarks are not objects of the reserve.
