                  In 1037 in Kiev was founded Grand Duke of Kiev Yaroslav Vladimirovich's church Hagia Sophia. Here Prince Yaroslav founded the first library in Russia, school, here was conducted chronicle, copied and shifting books, receptions of foreign ambassadors took place. In 1776 Empress Catherine II issued a decree closed the Hagia Sophia and submitted it under the metropolitan rezydetsiyu. Inside the Cathedral of the set of ancient frescoes and mosaics, including the famous mosaic Virgin Oranta. Complex structures Sophia monastery is now in the list of World Heritage protected by YUNESKO and state.
