The house was built in 1798 in classical style to the commandant of the fortress Caves PL Vigel. In 1807-1816 in the house had settled with his family Constantine Ypsilanti - the ruler of Moldova and Wallachia. Persecution by the Turkish authorities forced him to seek political asylum in Russia. In 1807 he settled in Kiev, Ypsilanti, brought here by his sons: Alexander, Major-General of the Russian army, a member of the Patriotic War of 1812, and Dmitri, Russian army officers, both later became prominent figures of Greek national liberation revolution. Ypsilanti was buried in St. George's Church, where he found a marble headstone. In 30-ies. 20. ashes's tomb was moved to the Cathedral of the Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. In 1833 this house became the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The building is part of the estate complex, which is a closed courtyard, built around the perimeter of residential and business premises. The monument is a rare example of a major urban complex of the estate, which is characteristic of classical architecture. Now the house is used by different agencies, in particular, the diplomatic mission of Great Britain.
