                  Originating in the early 1800's as merchant square Pryvoz initially was used for goods transported by cartage selling and storage. Fixed trade began with the one-storey fish, meat and chip goods lines, appeared in 1804 on the perimeter of the area and gave the names of the streets. It designed by Italian architects. Thus, the stalls along the Novorybnaja street (now Panteleimonovskaya str.) built by Giovanni Frapolli. Order on the market special officers keep at first, and later - the elected supervisors congeneric merchant and the petty-bourgeois class. Their job was to prevent speculation and high prices of products. The central part of the area remained free until 1860, then there appeared unsuited wooden tents retail groceries. Prior to the beginning of XX century Privoz remained muddy unpaved area. In the shops unsanitary conditions prevailed: in basements, cellars and catacombs beneath bred rats. Therefore, in 1902, when there was threat of plague, all buildings on the marketplace was burn out. Next, by 1913, there appeared Fruit Passage, have stood to this day: 4 two-storey stone buildings with suites of shops and deep cellars. The buildings are located in pairs in two rows, yards between them are connected by arches to the door. After a 45 years, instead of former "reznits" (slaughter-houses) capital meat and dairy buildings appeared (architect Rachel Volodymyrs’ka). Then at the end of 1990 general reconstruction of the market began. By 2007, in addition to old housing the new meat and fish pavilions and two multi-story shopping centres was build. The series of boxes for retailers installed around the perimeter; fruit and vegetable rows are also reconstructed. Modern Privoz occupies over 8 hectares, the average daily trading here involve more than 6,000 people.
