The museum was created on March 24, 1964 in memory of the airborne detachment under the command of K.F. Olshansky, who landed behind enemy lines on the territory of the Nikolaev sea trade port on March 26, 1944, and fought for more than two days with superior enemy forces, repelling 18 fierce enemy attacks and defended the occupied positions. To liberate Nikolaev from the Nazi invaders, the paratroopers of Konstantin Olshansky literally did not spare their lives. By March 28, of the 68 paratroopers, 12 wounded fighters remained alive. This is the only operation during the war years when all its participants were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union. The paratroopers who died in the battle were buried with honors in the main square of the city. The exposition of the museum is represented by stands with photographs, models, real equipment and weapons of paratroopers.
