Ancient theatrical traditions have existed in Kryvyi Rih since the beginning of the XX century. In 1909, the Colosseum Theater operated in Kryvyi Rih. On August 28, 1930, the State Interdistrict Theater of the Socialist Sector was established, serving the Kremenchug and Kryvyi Rih districts with a permanent residence in the city of Kremenchuk. In connection with the administrative reform, the theater was reorganized. In early 1931, the theater was moved to Kryvyi Rih, where it received the name - "Kryvbas". The grand opening of the theater took place on November 5, 1931 with the premiere of the play "Affair of Honor" based on the play by I. Mykytenko. In 1949, the Kryvyi Rih Theater was named after Taras Shevchenko. For 70 years of creative work the theater has played more than 20 thousand performances, more than 700 performances were given on tour, 150 of them for children.
