In 1922, Karadag became natural monuments of local, then the republican values, and in 1979 by the Council of Ministers of the USSR - State Reserve. Karadag Nature Reserve area is 2,874.2 hectares, including 809.1 hectares - the Black Sea. Its area protection zone is 960.9 hectares. Landscape Reserve is particularly striking in its originality and unusual. The reserve is unique in Europe array Jurassic typical characteristics of volcanic activity, which suited the plain steppes of the Crimea. Vegetation Reserve represented deciduous forests of oak fluffy, hornbeam, ash, motley-cereal steppes, and shyblyakovoho fryhanoyidnymy groups, juniper and pistachio-oak woodlands. Equally varied are the fauna and Karadag. Total number of registered animals here is 5300 species, of which 130 species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and 30 species listed in the European Red List.
