                  The monastery of franciscans was founded in the 15th century in the days of Polish king Vladislaw Yahaylo. The monastery stood above a lake next to the Market square, not far away from a royal castle. The castle and monastery were connected by subterranean passage. An old legend says that the heart of king Vladislaw Yahaylo was buried in the walls of monastery. After the division of Poland in 1772 the monastery of franciscans was liquidated, barracks took place in monastic cells, and the church was converted into prison. In Soviet times the complex of monastery was partly destroyed. The buildings of monastery are recovered now, and this is the Svyato-Preobrazhens'kyi monastery of Studites now.
