Костел св. Варфоломія
Костел св. Варфоломія
The St. Bartholomew Catholic Church (Voznesinnya Hospodnyoho) was founded in Drohobych in 1392 by Polish king Vladislaw Yahaylo, however it was sanctified only in 1511. The massive gothic building is built in place of the palace of times of Galichina-Volhynia principality. The church is one of the oldest stored buildings of Drohobych, the standard of architecture of gothic and end baroque (interior paintings, 14-16 cc.). During renewal works which were conducted in the church in 18 century, the interiors of temple were painted again by the artist Andryi Solits'kyi in style of late baroque. Except religious pictures, here also there were compositions on historical themes: the scene of defeat of the Drohobych church by the cossacks of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi and Tatars in 1648, the scene of grant of old rights by Austrian king Joseph ІІ to Drohobych etc. Frescos were made by master Borsch about 1800. Stained-glass windows were made already in 19 c.
