Pyriatyn District People's Museum of Local Lore was founded in 1967. In 1990, the museum finally received a permanent residence in one of the old buildings of the city. The exposition, located in six rooms, covers the history of the region from ancient times to the present. In particular, the ethnographic collection is presented, as well as exhibits that recreate the life and way of life of the Pyriatyn Cossacks. In total, the museum funds store up to 12,000 exhibits. The museum has exhibits from the times of Kievan Rus: agricultural and handicraft tools, household items, jewelry, weapons, religious objects. There is a section that belongs to the Cossack era. Among his exhibits are a bronze eight-pointed staff of the first half of the 17th century, and a letter written by the ataman of the Zaporizhzhya Sich, Peter Kalnyshevsky. You can also see household items of burghers, Cossacks, coins, weapons, copper and wooden utensils. The museum has a small collection of jewelry from past centuries, among which there are dukachi - women's jewelry of the late XVIII-XIX centuries, which was made of bronze. Dukachi were often dressed in coral, and passed down from generation to generation in the family. Profiles of emperors, empresses or scenes from the Holy Scriptures were engraved on this ornament. Until recently, the exposition of the Museum of Local Lore had 5 ducats. But later the collection was replenished with 9 more exhibits and a book about these jewelry. So the complete collection was collected in the museum.
