The first synagogue in this place was built in wood in 1625, however it burned out soon. Only in 1692 the permission on building was got from an archbishop of Lviv Jan Lyps'kyi. Building of a new synagogue begun at once in 1692, under the direction of royal architect Petro Beber. The building was completed in 1698 or in 1700. At the end of 17 century the synagogue had such refined look, that a catholic clergy forbade to whitewash it, while it could outshine Zhovkva churches. Since that time the synagigue had partial repairs only. After the fire of 1833 the partly damaged synagogue was restored. The whole building was restored in 1938. At German occupation in June, 1941 the synagogue was undermined, ceilings and interior were destroyed as a result. In 1955-1956 it was partly restored. To beginning of 1990th the building was used as a store-house. The last restoration of the building began in 2000.
