Монастир отців Василіян
Монастир отців Василіян
A basic building of complex of the Basilian monastery is the Temple of the Christ's heart. The temple is built in place of an old wooden church. In 1691 Jan ІІІ Sobes'kyi carried to the church from Moldavia relics of Ivan Suchavs'kyi. Then Basilian monks arrive to Zhovkva. At the church a monastery was founded, the father superior of which the Romanian philosopher metropolitan Dosiphen became. In 1697-1699 the Zhovkva artist Ivan Rutkovih with other masters made an iconostasis. In 30th of 18 c. this iconostasis was sold to the village Nova Skvaryava. The tower of monastery was built in 18 century. In 1895 the printing-house of Basilian monks was founded. Other buildings were finished at the beginning of the 20 century. Also alteration of temple took place at the beginning of the 20 century. Since more old times only a renaissance white-rock portal of lateral entrance was saved. The present painting of church from 1932 to 1934 Yulian Butsmanyuk created. His painting is identified with the Ukrainian baroque and separately its originality is marked. For example, on one fresco cossacks who brought gifts to new-born Jesus are represented, and on other there is the Act of Connection with the images of the known political and public figures of that time. The imperishable remains of the martyr St. Parthenyi, which in 1783 were brought from Vienna, lie not far away from an altar. They replaced the relics of Ivan Suchavs'kyi, which were returned to Suchava on call of local habitants. In 1990 the church was returned to the order of Basilians and it now belongs to Lviv branch of the UGCC. In 2003 the new iconostasis, made by Zhovkva masters, was sanctified.
