The city of regional significance in the Kiev region, the administrative center Brovarsky area, a satellite town of Kiev, who is away at 12 km to the east. The population is about 86 thousand people. The city's name means in Ukrainian "brewers." The first mention of the city - in 1628. At that time it was a small town in which there were 46 and 68 Cossack peasant households. Basically, the farmers engaged in agriculture, while more affluent Cossacks - winemaking and brewing (in Polish brovarstvo from this, perhaps, is the name of the city). Most of Osterskogo starostvo, which includes a Brovary, belonged to Prince Jeremiah Vyshnevetsky. At the beginning of the liberation war of Ukrainian people 1648-1654's Prince Vishnevetskii Brovary strengthened by focusing here a large armed force. But under the impact of insurgent peasants, this detachment was forced to leave town. At this time (1648-1649 years) Brovarakh created Cossack squadron, the first centurion of which was Fyodor Vedmid. In 1667 Brovarska hundred joined the hundreds of Kiev in connection with the expansion of the boundaries of the latter. In 1817 in the town was built post office. In 1836, the construction of the highway that connects Brovary with the left bank of the Dnieper. From 1868 until 1870 in Brovary functioned Kiev railway station. In January 1918, established the Soviet Brovarakh vlast.Brovarsky district was created in spring 1923. Brovary population was at that time 4065 people. In 1930, the functions of the district center moved to Dymerke, which became the Great Dymerkoy. And in 1937, again became the center of Brovary Brovarsky area.
