Zhytomyr Regional Literary Museum was founded on December 4, 1990. Since 2001, the museum has been housed in a two-story building at Kyivska 45, built in 1907 by opera singer Clara Brun, who performed with Chaliapin and Sobinov, and visited Zhytomyr between European tours. This house is one of the last in the city examples of Art Nouveau in architectural design. Exquisite molding on the facade and ceilings, and especially of incredible beauty, the only majolica furnace with gilding in Zhytomyr testify to the wealth and exquisite aesthetic tastes of the former owners. The museum has collected about 5 thousand items of museum value. The following stand out in particular: - library and archival materials of the poet-translator Borys Ten, - autographs of Ukrainian writers of the 19th-20th centuries, sketches for performances of the Zhytomyr Theater, collections of theatrical posters, - memorial items of Ukrainian writers and artists. The museum conducts research on the life and work of famous writers and artists in the Zhytomyr region. Researchers of the museum are the authors of books and articles about writers from Zhytomyr and those writers and cultural figures whose lives are connected with Zhytomyr.
