                  The result of the zoo was the first among zoos in Ukraine in 1993 was admitted to the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA). The zoo participates in 18 European breeding programs of rare species (EEP), a member of Euro-Asian Regional Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EARAZA) in the International System of Accounting Animal (ISIS). In May 2003, Nikolaev Zoo was the first zoo in Ukraine the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). April 26, 1901 Mayor Nikolai Pavlovich Leontovich founded his own private collection, which resides in his home. Leontovich's collection was widely known in Russia and Europe. Aquarium had electric compressors and heaters. The fish were placed in 75 aquaria. The collection consisted of about 50 species of fish and amphibians, more than 1000 copies. September 9, 2001 the grand opening of the new square and the monument to the founder of the zoo Nikolai Pavlovich Leontovich. The monument - Ina, Yuri and Victor Makushins.
