Фортеця Фуна
Фортеця Фуна
The medieval fortress, situated on a rocky hill at the foot of the mountain Demerdzhi. The name in Greek means "smoky." Previously called Funa and Mount Demerdzhi, which is often shrouded in mist. The fortress has been known since 1384 as the eastern outpost Mangupskyi Theodoro principality. Controlled the trade route that led from Gorzuvit (Gurzuf) and Aluston (Alushta) in steppe Crimea. In the course of the 1459 renovation was built 15-meter high rectangular tower-dungeon. Important place in the architectural ensemble occupied the church of St. Theodore Stratelates, whose ruins are preserved after the destruction of the fortress by the Turks in 1475.
