                  The fortress was built during the second half of the 19., Immediately after the Crimean War, to securely lock the entrance of the Black Sea in the Kerch Strait. Back in the 18 century. this place was established Pavlovskaia artillery battery. The first draft of the fortress was drafted in 1856, working intensively conducted for 20 years. The fortress was created as a gun - to 587 guns. Maritimes batteries were positioned so that they could fire concentrated fire on all vessels entering the Sea of Azov to narrow strait. Until recently, the castle was still used as a military ammunition depot, it housed the guardhouse and the disciplinary battalion of BSF. In 2003 the fort was transferred to the Kerch State Historical and Cultural Reserve.
