                  The Church of St. Michael the Archangel was built in 1849 on the initiative of Chief Black Sea Fleet commander, Mikhail Petrovich Lazarev, as a temporary church for the Admiralty during the construction of the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, located nearby. During the first defense of Sevastopol garrison church was the main church of the city.
