Title: City Radekhiv Status: The city of regional significance in the Lviv region, the administrative center of Radekhiv disrtict. Location: The city is located in Nadbuzhanska basin, near the river Ostrivka (tributary of Styr). Through the town the main European watershed goes. Area: 16.26 sq. km Population: 10700 inhabitants. River: Ostrivka The first mention in historical documents: 1474, city status was obtained in 1752. Historical note: In the local tradition the name "Radekhiv" is bound with phrase "happily hide", because people often had to hide from enemies in the forests, marshes and reeds. In fact, the name of the city has antroponymic origin: the names "Radoslav", "Radolyub" etc. In the 10-11 cc. Radekhiv already existed as a settlement. In 1578 the Tatars completely destroyed Radekhiv, Vitkiv, Polove, Seredpiltsy. In those days the tax books said about Radekhiv - "empty". The land on which there was a city, was the part of the Belz principality, which was formed about 1170 and belonged first to the Vladimir-Volyn principality, and then to the Galicia-Volyn principality. Belz was one of the largest cities in western Volyn principality. In the early 18th century Radekhiv passed into the possession of Count Mir. In Radekhiv the count constructed a large palace, which became the center of magnate estates. Fairs were held here and the town was gradually rebuilt and converted into the city. In the second half of the 19th century Radekhiv large estates passed to the family of Count Badeni, who married the daughter of the Count Mir. Badeni was considered the seventh of the ten richest tycoons of Galicia. He was vicar of the emperor in Galicia. Badeni rebuilt and enlarged the palace, planted a park, built a greenhouse and ordered the fence of his possession - a three-meter stone wall. By that time in Radekhiv small industrial and commercial firms were. 1910 in Radekhiv the construction of a railroad Lviv - Stoyaniv, that was sponsored by Badeni, was completed. Main attractions: the St. Nicolas temple, City Hall, the old building of the People's House, partially preserved ensemble of the Market square, the remaining walls of the palace and garden conservatory, a synagogue (18 c.).
