Title: City Mostys'ka Status: The city of regional significance in the Lviv region, the administrative center of Mostys'ka district. Location: The town stands near the river Sichna (Visla basin), 66 km from Lviv. Area: 11 sq. km Population: 10,000 inhabitants. River: Sichna Year of foundation: 1244, city status was obtained in 1404. Historical note: The regional center Mostys'ka - one of the oldest cities in Ukrainian Carpathians. The city's name comes from the word "bridges" that are still there on all four sides of the city. The first written mention of this locality occurs in the Galicia-Volyn chronicle in 1244. This year the army of Daniil Galitsky defeated the army of Prince of Chernigov Rostislav Mihailovich, pretender to the throne of Galicia. The battle took place on the river Sichna at Mostysche, as Mostys'ka was called. In 1387 Galician lands were seized by the Polish magnates. In 13 c. Mostys'ka was slight strengthening of the boyars. In 1404 the city got Magdeburg Right and in 1434 it became the center of district. During the 15-17 centuries city was often destroying by the Turks, Tatars, Moldovans, Sweden. In the Middle Ages the city was a major trade and crafts center on the West lands. The urban poor are not reconciled with their plight: in 1648 they helped the troops of Bogdan Khmelnitsky to destroy fortifications and the rich folds. In 1772, during the first section of the Rzech Pospolyta, Austria seized Galicia. Even after the political reforms of the Austrian government in 70-80th townsmen were deprived of political rights. In the late 19 c. - early 20 c. in the city activity of the Radical Party increased. There were strikes, demonstrations of peasants of suburban villages here. In autumn 1999 the inhabitants of the area celebrated the 755 anniversary of Mostys'ka. Main attractions: the Dominican church, the St. John the Baptist Church, the Pokrovs'ka Church, the Voznesens'ka Church, the palace of Strakhots'kyi on the outskirts Rudnyky.
