                  Місто Трускавець
Title: City Truskavets' Status: city of regional subordination in the Lviv region. Location: The city is located 95 km to the south of Lviv, close to Drohobych. Area: 77.4 sq. km. Population: about 22,500 inhabitants. The first mention in historical documents: 1469. Historical background: The origin of the name of the city is not fully understood. Some researchers believe that "Truskavets'" is a modified form of the Polish word "truskawka" - strawberry. But strawberry has appeared in Europe only after 1712, and the name of the town was first mentioned already in the 15 century. Others believe that the name of the city was affected by the Lithuanian language. In Lithuanian "druska" - it's salt, and Carpathian region (particular, the nearby Drohobych) was a renowned center of salt production. This version is supported by strong bilateral relations between Galicia-Volyn principality and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in the 12-15 cc. According to third version, the name "Truskavets'" comes from the Slavic name "Trushko" or "Trus'ko", eventually transformed into "Truskovich", "Truskavets'". At the beginning of its existence Truskavets' probably was the property of Galicia-Volyn princes, and after the conquest of the Principality by feudal Poland Truskavets' lands were the property of Polish kings. In 1518, the city became part of Drohobych district. In 1772, after the first partition of Poland, Truskavets' became the property of the Austrian emperor. The date of the formal establishment of the resort spa is considered to be 1827, when there premises for the first 8 baths were built. Medicinal properties of Truskavets' waters were known very well. They were first described by the royal physician Wojciech Ochko in 1578. Raphael Zhonchins'kyi, author of the textbook "Gistoriya naturalna", which was published in 1721, indicated that in Truskavets', as in other villages of the region, oil was extracted, and water that accompanied it the peasants drank for the treatment of various diseases. Stanislav Staszic wrote in a little work, which was published in 1805, that, except salt, here mineral wax and oil were mined, from which with the help of distillation kerosene was got, which was used for street lighting. Chemical analysis of mineral water "Naftusya" was first held by Lviv scientist, pharmacist and chemist Theodor Torosevich in 1836. In 1892 in the city premises for inhalation were built. Truskavets' rose to the level of European resorts. In the city new hotels, villas, B & Bs were built. In the early 20th century new baths and bypass roads were built. In 1911 electric lighting for streets and the park was held. In 1909 the railway with a small railway station was built, and in 1912 in the city a new station building appeared. In 1913, for the great advances in the development Truskavets' resort was awarded with a gold medal. In 1939, the western lands of Ukraine were included into the USSR. Already in 1939 there were 147 houses and pensions, the treatment took place throughout the year. During the Second World War the city was badly damaged. Nevertheless, already in 1945 there several sanatoriums have been restored. Since 1947 Truskavets' became a city of regional subordination, since 1952 - a city of regional subordination. Later Truskavets' got the status of the All-Union resort. Main attractions: Art Museum, Museum of Truskavets' History, Diocesan Museum. Source of information: http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Трускавец
