                  Title: Berdychiv City Status: The city of regional subordination. Administrative center Berdychiv area. Location: Located on the river Gnylopiat (Dnipro basin), 43 km south of Zhytomyr. Population: 87,000 thousand people Area: 35.33 square meters. km. Waterways: River Gnylopiat Founded: 1546 Historical note: Berdychiv known since 1320 when this area was presented to Grand Duke Gediminas the Tyshkevich family. Year of foundation Berdychiv considered in 1546. In the early 17 century governor Prince Yanush Tyshkevich built in Berdychiv lock, but some time later, in 1627 founded the monastery of Roman Catholic mendicant Order of Barefoot Carmelites. After 1765 with the permission of the Polish king Stanislaw August in Berdychiv were introduced annual fairs. In 1793, Berdychiv was joined in the Right Bank of Ukraine to the Russian Empire. In December 1845 the king's decree Berdychiv was granted city status. Simultaneously, he became the center of Berdychiv County. Starting from the 2 nd half 18 th century, Berdichev became one of the largest shopping centers in Ukraine. Since 1937, Berdychiv, as the regional center, is part of the Zhytomyr region. During the Nazi occupation in the town was organized extermination camp, where it was brutally shot 38,536 Jews lived in the city - mostly women, children and the elderly. January 5, 1944 troops of the 1 st Ukrainian Front liberated Berdychiv. Main attractions: St. Barbara Church, Tomb of the Levi-Itskhak.
