On the eve of Teacher's Day in 2002, on the territory of the Kharkov State Pedagogical University named after Grigory Skovoroda, they decided to honor the profession of a teacher by opening the first in Ukraine monument to a primary school teacher. It is interesting that the image of the first teacher, represented by the sculptor Gorbunov, resonates with the stereotyped Soviet idea fixed in the cinematic image of the "rural teacher" Vera Maretskaya. The first teacher, portrayed Gorbunov quite young, but already "experienced and loved." The sculptural composition is represented by the figure of a first grader sitting at a desk and a young teacher explaining the lesson. Bronze sculptures were made from nature.
