The Technological Institute (now the National Technical University "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute") is one of the oldest educational institutions of the city. The construction of the institute began in the mid-seventies of the XIX century, and in 1885 the first buildings built in the "brick" style (architect R. Henrichsen) were put into operation. In the early twentieth century. The rector's building (former drafting architect M.Lovtsov), the engineering building (architect V.Velichko) and the electrical building (architect A.Beketov) were built. The latter was designed in a classical style, but due to the tide of time the author revised the project in the style of constructivism. Construction of new buildings of the university continued in the following years.
