One of the eldest museums of Ukraine, founded in 1891 on initiative of professor V. Dokuchaeva as a museum of nature and history of the Poltava province. Basis of collection was made by the exhibits of museum and library of E. Skrzhinskoy, collection of east antiquities of P. Bobrovskogo. Today the display of museum consists of department of nature, archaeology, ethnography, departments of history of XIV -nach. XX ages, and also histories of XX -nach. XXI ages. Separate attention is deserved by «Treasure-house», where the most unique exhibits are presented, the general amount of which is made by 300 thousands A museum is in building of former province zemstvo, built during 1903-1908 on the project of architect of V. Krichevskogo. Building in style Ukrainian modern contains traditional ornamentaciyu in registration of facade. Along facade part the coats of arms of district cities of the Poltava province are placed. The highly artistic painting of vestibule of museum and central hall is executed the known Ukrainian artists of S. Vasil'kovskim and N. Samokishem. Building of the Poltava regional museum is entered in the List of sights of architecture of national value.
