In Me is the only Ukrainian provincial zoo. Not a zoo and zoo corner, but a real zoo. It was established in 1977. Initiated the creation of a local police sergeant Gennady Polosmak - a fanatical animal lover. First, he gathered the animals in his yard: parrots, canaries, rabbits. Then came the cubs from poachers purchased (the future "actors" Jack and Palma), foxes, roe deer. In 1975 Polosmak "knocked out" of the district leadership of the land, which was used to create this zoo. Animal him or gave, or he bought them ... In 1982 he received a zoo Mensky status nationwide. But in the early '90s, he could disappear. Local authorities refused it. Then, somehow to "stay afloat", the management of the zoo was forced to sell some of the animals from the collection. But fortunately survived the zoo ... Now the collection Mensky zoo has 120 species of animals (more than 500 individuals).
