According to others, the first reference found in the annals of Moldova in 1501. In 1514-1574 he served under the rule of the Turks. Until 1774 was subject to Vyzhnytsia Moldavian principality, and later - Austria-Hungary. The city developed as a trading settlement, which is closely associated with the mountain and lowland regions of Bucovina, famous for its good trade fair tradition. Fair City has received the status in 1767. In 1848-1849 years the peasants took part in anti-feudal movement led Lukian Kobylytsia. In 1855 he became a district center.
