                  In 1639, Governor Andrew Leszczynski (1606-1651) founded the Dominican monastery in the town, but then came the original, even a wooden church. When in 1729 the wooden church burned down, was founded by a stone shrine. Baroque wonder he grew up in 1736-1741. through the efforts of the architect Paul Giżycko. After the Polish uprising of 1831 in the monastery was closed in 1832, a church given to the Orthodox community. Now it is renovated Exaltation of Holy Cross Cathedral male Orthodox monastery.
