                  Chapel of St. Thecla is located on a small mound on the western outskirts of the city Berestechko. Mound was erected in memory of the tragedies of 1658, when the Tatars destroyed the city and captured 750 of its residents, including 43 nuns from the Catholic monastery prioress named Thecla. According to legend, about five hundred prisoners were girls (Ukrainian and polkas) refused to follow the invaders and were executed and their bodies lined the road Tatars to pass through the swamp. The chapel, built in 1698 on the grave of martyred women, was named after St. Thecla pervomuchenitsy.
